Yukata special edition!

Yukata! And the places where they are worn!

*clap clap* Girl's from Shugo Chara clap twice to make their presence known to the gods on New Years, to recieve blessings for the coming year!

Here Usagi from Sailor Moon and her family are relaxing in yukata while staying at a hot spring resort. The literal translations of yukata is 'bathing robe' and often worn after baths.

What marks many Japanese festivals and pleasure activitys is the yukata. Yukata is a thin cotton robe which is tied in the back with an sash (obi) for special occasions or tied in the front for relaxing or after bathing.

Laura and Kana seem to be having trouble fisihing for water balloons. Yo-yo Tsuri are ballons filled with 1/10th water and bounced like yoyo's. Fishing for them is a traditional game often seen at Japanese summer festivals. The balloons are fished for with thin easily breakable strings, making it difficult to catch the balloons without the string breaking.

Oh! Caught one :) Good work Kana!

Here Tsukasa and her twin Kagami are scooping gold fish! This Japanese game is called Kingyo-sukui; Kingyo meaning "goldfish" and "sukui" meaning scooping in Japanese. The players get a small bowl and net made of paper to catch the goldfish. The paper is easily torn when wet and it can be difficult to catch a fish before breaking the paper.

Ohh! Caught one! Good job Kagami! :)

This is Sakura wearing a yukata. She is not a game and is not to catch...

I was mistaken! Nice catch Tomoyo :)<3 careful not to break her

This ends the yukata special. Stay tuned for more animebedroom specials! They might sneak up on you!

Hmm... it looks like...

Stars!

No, not stars?

Oh!

Konpeito :)

Konpeito is a tradition Japanese sweet. It has been around since the 1500 century when trade between Japan and other countries began. These small star like formations are all sugar and a smaller version of Western rock candy. If you spilled your konpeito it must look like shooting stars landing on earth, blasting out into all directions!

Westerner's were introduced to konpeito in the movie spirited away. The konpeito were fed to the small dust bunny like spirits who brought coal to the furnice keeper.

Good work guys :)!

Oh, Laura : <> konpeito is not for hamsters!

That's better :3

Special lunch edition!

Sailor moon bento lunch!

Usagi and Naru are best friends and characters from Sailor moon. Let's see what they are eating for lunch

It seems Naru is having Gyoza (pot stickers), rice and umebosi in her bento.

Unlike umeboshi gyoza is not a traditional Japanese food but a different take on the Chinese dumplings Jiaozi. Pickled umeboshi is a traditional Japanese food. Umeboshi is a cousin of plums and apricots and had a sweet taste. Pickled umeboshi in the center of white rice in some store bought bentos to recreate the Japanese flag.
delicious!

Naru is using a tradition bento box which is fitting for her traditional lunch. From jbox.com

Usagi's lunchbox on the other hand is not filled with traditional foods. She has cherry tomatos, tamago, sliced radishes, small sausages and fried rice.

Tamago is a sweet rolled omlet. It often made in a small retangular pan and the egg is cooked in thin sheets rolled around eachother. The results is a fluffy texture and attractive apperiance.

The rice is seperated from the rest by sushi grass- which looks attractive and is used as a seperator for foods.

Fried rice is a Chinese creation but oven eaten in Japan and other parts of Asia.

And all this non-traditional food should be stored in a cute box like this one!

That's all for the special lunch edition of anime bedrooms! :) see you again soon!
